Bring Your Own Device - BYOD

What is Bring your own device (BYOD)?

"Bring your own device" (BYOD) refers to technology models where students bring a personally owned device to school for the purpose of learning. A personally owned device is any technology device brought into the school and owned by a student (or the student's family). BYOD is a solution where students bring their own device to school in order to access learning tools through the school's network. BYOD is designed to give you, as students and families, the freedom to make technology choices that suit you and your circumstances.

All students are requested to bring their own personal computing device to school every day. Devices should be fully charged in order for students to access online resources for each subject. This organisational practice demonstrates to both students and teachers the student's intention to learn and puts the student in the right mindset to achieve course outcomes.

If families are experiencing financial difficulties providing a device, please email the school so that alternative arrangements can be made for your child's access to technological resources.

Free software for students

As part of the DoE’s Enterprise agreement with Adobe and Microsoft, students can download and install Adobe, MS Office and Windows for free on one personally owned device.

Adobe

The enterprise agreement with Adobe allows NSW public school students to install Adobe software for free on personally owned devices. This gives students access to Adobe Creative Cloud, Spark and more.

Access to Adobe software by students, is provided through single-sign on via the DoE Student Portal. Home Internet access is required. The video below explains how Adobe Creative Cloud applications can be accessed by NSW DoE staff and students, both on personally owned Windows and Mac devices.

Google Apps

Google Apps for Education is a suite of web-based applications which help teachers and students work collaboratively on documents, spreadsheets, presentations and more.  The platform includes Google Classroom, a way to manage assignments online.  https://student-googleapps.education.nsw.gov.au/ or can be accessed through your Student Portal.
